Students organized Walk for Children

On Saturday, May 22, about 1,000 people gathered at Lake Gardens for the inaugural “Walk for Children : 1 Malaysia” walkathon organized by the High School International Club. Aiming to promote diversity and community service, the student leaders of the club worked hard the whole year and were finally able to turn their vision of making an extraordinary impact come true!

The walkathon was organized by the students to support SHELTER Home for Children and its work in helping disadvantaged and abused Malaysia youth. United by this cause, participants from 16 schools and organizations and experienced a memorable and fun Saturday morning.

The event began with a walk of 3km and 5km, followed by a Cultural Show sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and performance from our very own high school’s ISKL Singers, The Sects (HS bands), Soul Bratz (breakdancing group) and ISKL alumnus and Malaysian rapper, Caprice. It was a truly a unifying moment and despite the rain, the event brought together ISKL and the Malaysian community at large.

On the whole, it was a great learning experience for all the participants and an opportunity to reach out to the community. As genial club president Michael George said, “Our goal in organizing such a large event was to show that students can truly make a difference. In this endeavor I think we have succeeded in exceeding all expectations.”
