Anna’s* (our former resident) plans of studying a wedding course with her family’s support did not pull through despite the best intentions of the family when she left our home. She initially hesitated to contact us for help as she felt that it was not right after giving us the assurance that the family could handle it. However, she still took the step to contact the home manager of Shelter 2 and from there, we started looking in how we could support her.

Thankfully, she has been spending her time productively as she was practising her beauty training skills at her mother’s friend’s beauty salon while aiming to take her Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) level 2. In a way, it was a blessing in disguise because she had more time to figure out what she wanted to do for her vocational course. After much discussion and assessment with the Case worker, it was decided that the Beauty Therapy course with a SKM level 3 was what was best for her and with huge thanks to Head to Toe Beauty Academy, they have offered us some discount on their tuition and hostel fees.

Even though the family could not put her through with the full financial support for her vocational course, they did however agreed to help pay part of her monthly allowance. When Anna moved into the hostel last July to start her class, her mother was very quick to ensure that anything she needed was provided. We are excited for Anna because she’s someone who is diligent, resourceful and motivated. The goal now is to see how well she does for this Beauty Therapy course and if all is well, to have her aim for the CIDESCO International diploma. The CIDESCO qualification is the world’s standard for beauty and spa therapy!

We have had the blessings of a few very kind sponsors who helped cover the costs of her studies to raise her up at her last lap with us. With that, Anna has joined the 9 others who are in their last lap of tertiary or vocational studies and work placement who are under our support.
