Malaysia’s new generation of outstanding women achievers were honoured tonight, 6 September 2007, at The Great Women of Our Time Awards, an initiative, conceptualized by The Malaysian Women’s Weekly that seeks to recognize excellence, leadership and performance across a diverse range of disciplines for women.

The 18 Great Women of Our Time nominees from a set of six categories: Arts and Media; Finance and Commerce; Education and Public Service; Science and Technology; Health, Sports and Wellness; and Design and Style, were recognized at a glittering gala dinner held at Windows on KL 1 and 2, Crown Plaza Mutiara, Kuala Lumpur.

Additionally, one of the 18 nominees was awarded: “Most Inspiring Woman 2007” as chosen via SMS by reader of The Weekly. She received RM5,000 to donate to a charity of her choice. This distinguished lady chose to present the RM 5,000 to SHELTER.

Mdm Foong Pik Yee, Chief Financial Officer, Standard Chartered, Malaysia, on the 28 December 2007, made this wonderful gesture, a beau gesture to all the children of SHELTER. Of course our Executive Director, Mr James Nayagam was on hand to accept the cheque and the photograph captures the essence of this gesture – love.
